Journey to Nicole

April 14

Hi everyone.  Things are going great.  Nikki is just doing wonderfully.   By far the most difficult thing about being in China is being here without Joe.  We miss him so much and it is breaking our hearts.  We can not wait to have  our family together.  We have  about a week more to go.  We are so grateful to Dave's parents for taking such wonderful care of him while we are here. - -- Thanks again Mom and Dad!!

Nikki is sleeping right now.  She has really just continued to bloom.  If you took a look at the videos that Dave did, you have seen that she can walk with us holding one of her hands.  She does not know how to crawl (typical of Chinese babies).  She can sit well. However, she is not able to go from laying down to sitting up or from standing to sitting down.    She has great fine motor skills.  She can pick up small objects, like Cheerios (her favorite), with each hand.  We have already seen her developing her gross motor skills.  She is now trying to hold one of our fingers and  bend down and pick up an object and stand back up. We clap and she claps.  Too cute!  She loves listening to any kind of music and she dances a little too.  I bet you can all guess what her first "english" word is.....you guessed it, Da Da.  She is just crazy about her Daddy.  It is the sweetest thing.

We went to a large shopping center in the town square of Chongqing.  That was really interesting as you will see with Dave's photos and notes below.  Our group drew crowds everywhere we went.  People would walk beside us down the street and touch the babies.  They said things like..."lucky baby" and "beautiful baby". Everyone was very curious but very kind.   We ran into one older gentleman that could speak English well.  He was so sweet and so very happy for the babies.  He said..."the lucky baby goes to America".

The traffic in China is simply WILD!!  It is quite frightening to look out the front window of the bus.  We took a taxi once in Beijing and 'whoa' that was something.  Lets just say that the lines on the road are more like "guidelines" not rules.  I hope we can get a good photo of some of it for you.

Joe - Our sweet boy, it is breaking our hearts to be so far away from you.  We love you soooo much!  Just another week buddy and we will be home with you.

Department store in Chongqing.

When you find an item you wish to purchase you tell the girl in that sales area and she writes out a sales ticket. You take the ticket to the cashier and pay. The Cashier stamps the ticket as paid. Then, you take the ticket back to the area and the sales girl gives you your item.

Don't try to take an item out of the assigned area without paying for it first. The sales girls will throw a fit. Believe me...I know.

This man stopped us and told us of his relatives in the USA.

You'd be surprised at how much one man can carry.

Anne and her new boyfriend.

This seems to be an ongoing theme.
